Approved Telehealth VIDEO APPS for Physicians in British Columbia during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Navigating the approved Telehealth video app options (ex. Zoom, Skype, FaceTime) during the current healthcare crisis can be challenging and confusing. As physicians ourselves, we understand the importance of having secure, reliable technology options in order to continue care for your patients. In an effort to keep you informed, here are some of the video apps that are recommended in your health region.

FRASER HEALTH: Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp, FaceTime "We are working to make virtual care tools widely available for staff and medical staff using Zoom, FaceTime and WhatsApp. This will allow for surveillance and monitoring capability, provider-to-provider consultation and patient care. This will free-up space at acute and community sites, reduce the movement of people between locations and optimize our clinical expertise, while still ensuring that we continue to provide patient-centred care. Please see the guidelines for video visits in the COVID-19 section of Pulse. (Note: internal link; you must sign into the Fraser Health network to access)". VISIT FRASER HEALTH

VANCOUVER COASTAL HEALTH: Zoom "For care providers who would like to set up virtual meetings and appointments, you have the option to use Zoom. This is a great option for patients and clients who do not need to come to a health care setting for their appointment." For Guidelines on how to use and access Zoom, please visit this reference page. VISIT VANCOUVER COASTAL HEALTH

ISLAND HEALTH Region: Zoom, InTouch, Doxy.me, FaceTime, Skype "To enable social distancing and reduce in-person patient and client visits, Island Health is actively working with clinicians to shift services to virtual care delivery. The following new virtual care services are being deployed, and clinicians who deliver services that can be delivered virtually are encouraged to reach out to the contacts provided below for information on how to adopt the virtual tools:   Island Health has a new toolset that enables eVisits from any location and device, and supports clinical workflow with scheduling of virtual visits. Requests to enroll in MyVirtualVisit can be sent to Telehealth@viha.ca. Requests will be prioritized and attended to as fast as possible.   In the meantime, all clinicians are encouraged to use other existing tools to connect virtually with patients and clients, including telephone, SKYPE, or FaceTime.  WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are not recommended." For Guidelines on approved Tools and best practices, please visit this reference page.

INTERIOR HEALTH REGION: Zoom "In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, health care providers can connect with patients through Zoom with computers, tablets, or smart phones." For Access and more information please visit this reference page. VISIT INTERIOR HEALTH

NORTHERN HEALTH REGION: Zoom NOTE: We weren't able to find a dedicated page that outlines the approved telehealth apps for the Northern Health Region. However, there are references to Zoom on a few pages. Below is a link to a Virtual Training Session happening on April 9th on Virtual Care options for the region.   VIRTUAL PLATFORM TRAINING SESSION VISIT NORTHERN HEALTH
